Magnolia #8 - Par 3 - 156 yards to 70 yards
Bobby Jones is a 9-hole reversible golf course. The Magnolia Nine routing plays clockwise and the Azalea Nine plays counter-clockwise. For normal daily play, the nines are alternated, Mondays, the Magnolia Nine, Tuesdays the Azalea Nine and so on. For special events with a shotgun start, it is possible to play all 18 holes. The Murray Golf House (pictured left) is the permanent home to the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, as well as the Georgia State Golf Association and the Georgia PGA. The Georgia State University Golf Teams and the Grand Slam Golf Academy can also be found at the Bobby Jones Golf Course. Other amenities include Boone’s Restaurant, the Hall Hut, a full driving range, a 15,000 square foot Dan Yates Putting Course and a 5-hole short course. The Long-Leaf Tee System, which provides 8 tee locations for each hole, was integrated into the original design. Long-Leaf was developed by Dan Van Horn, founder of US Kids Golf. In 2022, we completed the last two elements of the original scope of work with the construction of the last practice green and a nursery green.
Since opening, Bobby Jones has partnered with the Shepherd Spine Center to provide therapy through golf instruction for patients and also hosted the 2021 Adaptive Golf Championship. The junior golf program has now exceeded 4,000 students since opening in 2019 and in addition to being recognized as one of the top 50 programs in the country, one of those students was crowned the 2023 Georgia Women’s Amateur Champion. And in October 2023 Bobby Jones hosted the Long Drive Championship.
Other elements included integrating a portion of the Atlanta Beltline/ Northside Trail at Tanyard Park, Ardmore Park and Atlanta Memorial Park completing the loop, which was achieved in concert with P.A.T.H., Georgia D.O.T. to include two pedestrian bridges across Peachtree Creek as well as an under-bridge crossing to provide safe passage across the busy Northside Drive thoroughfare.
So, what is a reversible golf course?
Reversible golf is not a new concept, but perhaps more of a nearly forgotten tradition. To learn more about reversible golf, click here.

The Golf Club of Georgia
Located in Alpharetta, the Golf Club of Georgia is one of the premier clubs in the Atlanta market. Boasting 36 holes and a state of the art practice facility and teaching center and a recently remodeled clubhouse, the Lakeside Course was recently ranked in the top 25 courses in Georgia. The Creekside Course was ranked #32 in the state.
The Golf Club of Georgia has been a multi-year program of updating and renovating the property. The Creekside Course was the opening round of design renovation improvements and included new bunkers, extensive tee work and some other more ambitious projects across the golf course.
Year two saw the renovation of the Lakeside Course. Again, significant tee work was implemented along with new bunkering and green expansion. During this time the clubhouse facility was completely redesigned and renovated and expanded into one of the premiere club facilities in the Atlanta market.
Year three included a total redesign of the practice facility, including state-of-the-art teaching center and club fitting facility as well as a three hole, multi-routing short course, a putting green and several short game greens.
Years four, five and six have included additional golf course tweaks and improvements as we continue to study and work with the owner to bring the property to its full potential.
Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club
Nestled in the ancient dunes and farmland of Argyll on the southwest coast of Scotland, just north of Campbeltown Airport, the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club was a bold undertaking by David Southworth of Southworth Development. The original golf course was designed by David McLay Kidd, which opened for play in 2008. Southworth Development has made its next bold move with a plan to expand the property, to include a new clubhouse, hotel and cottage enclave and part of the expansion includes adding a second golf course.
Two and half years of exploring, studying and planning, including 28 routings (along with another 19 routing variations) on eight potential property configurations led the Southworth team and five landowners to the current plan. It has been our privilege to provide the planning and preliminary design. Currently, the project is awaiting permits.
